Rare. Massive wurtzite occurred rarely between 18 and 19 levels. The occurrence of microscopic wurtzite, visible in polished section, is probably more widespread.

  • Hypogene

Notable Finds

Orange, brown, and green massive wurtzite was recovered from essentially unoxidised ore between 18 and 19 levels, roughly halfway between the first and second oxidation zones (Pinch and Wilson, 1977). Gebhard (1999) reports crystals to 5 mm from this discovery.

Paragenetic and General Notes

Wurtzite with a cadmium-to-zinc ratio of 1:1 has been reported from Tsumeb (Pinch and Wilson, 1977).
