Adamite, (v. cuprian adamite)

Mineral: Adamite, Quartz
Chemistry: Zn2(AsO4)(OH)
Size: 55 mm
Owner: Mariusz Oleszczuk

Gemmy, emerald-green crystals of cuprian adamite (to 11 mm), both as individuals and as intergrown groups, rest on an earlier generation of smaller crystals of what appears to be colourless, to yellow, and yellowish-green adamite (?).  The matrix consists mainly of greyish quartz, with maroon-coloured iron oxides.  (FOV for the close-up image is c. 25 mm.)

The specimen is believed to be from the second oxidation zone, and was formerly in the collection of E.J. (Ted) Immelman (Cape Town).
