Alamosite

Chemistry: PbSiO3
Size: 35 mm
Owner: Bruce Cairncross
Photographer: Bruce Cairncross

A radiating spray of white, sub-adamantine, terminated crystals of alamosite, with sparsely distributed sub-mm aggregates of greenish-black melanotekite.

Alamosite is a rare mineral at Tsumeb, and this is a very fine example.  The specimen is almost certainly from the second oxidation zone, where it was encountered in the 1970s for the first time at Tsumeb.
