Aragonite

Chemistry: CaCO3
Size: 80 mm
Owner: Mariusz Oleszczuk

Several sprays of sub-parallel, but slightly divergent, tapering, acicular crystals of white, to very pale blue-green aragonite are associated with malachite on a carbonate matrix.

The aragonite crystals range to 35 mm in length and are coloured, presumably, by copper.

The malachite appears to be overgrowing minor copper (?) and cuprite (?).

This is an old specimen, believed to be from the upper levels of the first oxidation zone.
