Azurite, (on Adamite)

Size: 81 mm

A composite tabular crystal of blue-black azurite, set on a contrasting matrix of what was originally identified as green smithsonite, forming a cavernous mass of intergrown microcrystals, locally with a sugary, sub-botryoidal texture.  While the habit and colour of the matrix material are very typical of smithsonite, qualitative EDS analysis has shown that it is in fact a copper bearing adamite.
