Azurite

Mineral: Azurite
Chemistry: Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2
Size: 103 mm
Owner: Mariusz Oleszczuk
Photographer: Mariusz Oleszczuk

Lustrous, translucent, indigo-blue crystals of azurite, striated and terminated, on a matrix that consists largely of royal-blue, earthy, massive azurite.

Note that all of the azurite crystallites share identical crystallographic orientation, providing a striking example of parallel growth from a matrix of common composition; indeed, the crystallised portion of this specimen can be considered as a single composite crystal.
