Azurite, (w. Dolomite and Quartz)

Mineral: Azurite, Dolomite, Quartz
Chemistry: Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2
Size: 60 mm
Owner: Mariusz Oleszczuk
Photographer: Mariusz Oleszczuk

A sheaf-like aggregate of curved, tabular crystals of azurite, partly overgrown by a second generation of smaller azurite crystals, lending parts of the surface of the specimen a “mossy” appearance.

There are plates of “matrix” material at both the top and bottom of the specimen, which consist of dolomite and quartz (both XRD confirmed) suggesting, perhaps, that the azurite grew between two surfaces of a dolomite cast (?).
