Azurite, (w. Smithsonite)

A c. 40 mm vug in mineralised, altered dolostone is lined with a druse of brownish-pink smithsonite crystals, and a single well-formed terminated crystal of azurite, 18 mm in length.   There are two very much smaller azurite crystals (to 5 mm) at the base of the main one.  The dolostone matrix is mineralised with massive smithsonite and azurite.

 

This is specimen # 4336 in the Karabacek Collection (MGMH # 93568) which dates it to the first oxidation zone.
