Baryte

Mineral: Baryte
Chemistry: BaSO4
Size: 80 mm
Owner: Mariusz Oleszczuk
Photographer: Mariusz Oleszczuk

A jumble of thick, tabular crystals of brown baryte, on a matrix of oxidised sulphide minerals.

The baryte crystals have a sub-vitreous lustre, and show considerable variation in colour, from a dark chocolate brown, but with orange-brown and yellow-brown highlights.

This is an old specimen, from the upper levels of the mine.
