Brochantite

Mineral: Brochantite
Chemistry: Cu2+4(SO4)(OH)6
Size: c. 50 mm
Owner: W.W. (Bill) Pinch
Photographer: John Schneider

Brochantite crystals on matrix.

Pinch's label attributes the specimen to the Wilhelm Klein Collection, but the date (April 1922) and the reference to the Shaler Memorial Expedition indicate that this is one of the specimens either gifted to, or collected by, Charles Palache during his 1922 visit to Tsumeb, and subsequently traded out of the Harvard University Collection.

A typed list of specimens collected during the Shaler Memorial Expedition (unpublished typescript, Harvard University) shows that specimen # 939 was labelled as "Brochantite, Gift of Klein"; this is almost certainly that specimen.
