Calcite

Mineral: Calcite, Galena, Pyrite
Chemistry: CaCO3
Size: 48 mm
Owner: Geoff Krasnov
Photographer: Geoff Krasnov

A group of doubly-terminated scalenohedral calcite crystals (to 39 mm) are perched on a matrix comprising well-formed crystals of galena and pyrite.

The calcite scalenohedrons are partly encrusted by a second generation of tan-coloured, micro-crystalline calcite.

The scalenohedral habit of calcite is relatively uncommon at Tsumeb.
