Calcite

Mineral: Calcite, Hematite
Chemistry: CaCO3
Size: 150 mm
Owner: The Tsumeb Museum, Tsumeb, Namibia
Photographer: Malcolm Southwood

A large and aesthetic calcite specimen comprising two crystal groups  on a matrix of dark, altered dolostone.

The larger group consists of a parallel growth of stepped, colourless, gemmy calcite rhombs.  This is complemented by a second, smaller, group of stepped rhombs coloured a delicate orange-red by inclusions of hematite (?).
