Calcite, (w. Dioptase)

Mineral: Calcite, Dioptase
Chemistry: CaCO3
Size: 62 mm.
Owner: Geoff Krasnov
Photographer: Geoff Krasnov

A group of colourless, translucent (but clouded) calcite rhombohedrons (to 23 mm) with later sub-millimetre dioptase crystals that have formed selectively along some of the calcite crystal edges.

The dioptase has in turn been supplanted by druses of snow-white calcite microcrystals.
