Malachite, (after Azurite; twinned)

Mineral: Azurite, Malachite
Size: 50 mm
Owner: Harvard University (Karabacek Collection)
Photographer: Malcolm Southwood

Superficially, this is a run-of-the mill pseudomorph of malachite after azurite, with some unaltered azurite at the base of the specimen as seen in Photograph 1.   However, as the Karabacek label indicates, one of the crystals appears to be a twin, which is something rarely encountered in azurite at Tsumeb.

This is specimen # 4074 in the Karabacek Collection (MGMH # 93573), which dates it to the first oxidation zone.
