Rosasite, (after Azurite)

Size: 40 mm
Owner: Crystal Classics
Photographer: Crystal Classics

A group of sharp, prismatic azurite crystals (to 30 mm) on a carbonate matrix, has been completely replaced by malachite.  The outermost layer of the malachite has then in turn been altered to rosasite.  This is an example of a so-called "double pseudomorph".  Some small crystals of colourless-white cerussite are also present on the matrix and adhering to one of the altered azurite crystals.
